Many years ago I was introduced to a lady from Canada by the late Tom McGreal, postman. She was visiting the town and met Tom doing his rounds. She told us one of her ancestors had taught in a school in Marsh House for Protestant children, a very nice person who was related to the Carson families, one of Castlebar's oldest and most respected families. Alfie Carson passed away last week, a great character, well read and widely travelled.
