Knew John and Pauline Cowman,Francis McGough, Roy Lindsay and Dan Linsday. Also Bob Lindsay and his wife, I think she was a sister of Alec Neely on Gallows Hill. There was a Lindsays Avenue in Castlebar, leading to Church Lake, opposite the Technical School in Newtown. Paddy McGough was a grand man, worked with my sister in the sausage house in bacon factory. John Cowman came to Castlebar with the army during the Emergency from Wexford. Went to school with Brendan Corish, leader of the Labour Party, a lovely man. The Lindsays and the McGoughs were genuine members of the old stock. Paddy McGough was a fine soccer and Gaelic player. His brother Martie kept ferrets for hunting rabbits. The first person I remember making sausages in the bacon factory was a man named Horne. Lived with his wife and daughter Lily with Paul and Trixie Holmes at 27 McHale Road. A Scottish man named Cameron later livid with Paul and Trixie. Was on the maintenance staff of the factory. The Cowman girls went to school with my sister. Oh, happy days! I could go on forever, but sleep is cathing up on me. Ther must be a book in this.God bless Castlear people everywhere, the cream of the crop.
