James Daly was editor of the Connaught Telegraph and co-founded the Land League with Michael Davitt. Daly was living proof that the pen is mightier than the sword and his trenchant articles in the CT at a time when Mayo and Ireland were on their knees gave our people a sense of pride and leadership. He deserves to be remembered and I believe he will be commemorated in the near future. The Garavans in Castlebar are his direct descendants, as are members of the Daly family in Mulranny and other parts of the country.
