Undoubtedly they were harsh times for many peole in the emerging Ireland, particularly up to the early 60s, but times change and many of the symbols of a hard past are now in the ownership of the state and are amenities for the populace.
Turlough Hse. has a new National Heritage Museum incorporated into it`s parkland, which will open to the public soon.
Westport House has been a tourist attraction for many years now and has been a keystone in the development of the tourist industry of the west.
There are still needy people in Ireland today, but the reason for this, in my opinion, is due to the quality of politicians we elect to govern us.
