If memory serves me right, Christian Bernard
performed the first heart transplant in Capetown,
South Africa and the instrumental Telestar was
dedicated to the first Japanese telecommunications
satellite (1963?). Before that, remember Fats Domino,
Hank Locklin, Johhny Cash,The Searchers, The
Seekers, Dave Clark Five, Sir Douglas Quintet,
Elvis, Cliff Richards. A little later the Trogs,
The Stones, The Animals, the Beatles, the
Mamas & Papas, the Montrey Festival. A little
later still the drugs, Cream and Woodstock and ....
Oh I could go on and on and on.....
Remember the 45's and EP's in Kilkellys - always
a good selection from private collections at the
hops. Remember the Top Twenty on BBC long wave on
a Sunday afternoon with Alan Freeman. Great
memories of listening to it at the lake on
transistor radio. In the cinema, remember Pathe
News and the shorts of new bands performing
(with drummer Jimmy Deasy in the audience!)
