I remember that glorious summer evening well. It was a great achievement to beat the McHales on their home patch as they were always boosted by their excited mammies on the sideline and energised at half time with plates of quartered oranges.
Fr. Shannon presented the cup to the Emmets captain, who ironically was a McHale ! Tom McHugh threw a few quid into it for sweets and cidona and triumphantly we raced back down the town.
I think the years are playing tricks with Hughie`s mind ! but I definitely scored the opening point of the match !
Where are they now - two are in the US, nine in Castlebar, three elswhere in Ireland,one deceased.
