I heard the name Staff Lally mentioned in a story many moons ago. I'm nearly sure he was a postman from Galway city. During the awful snow of 1947 all the telephone lines were down and it was impossible to contact a family in Castlebar about the death of a relative which occurred in a Galway hospital. Mr Lally walked from Galway to Castlebar through all the snow and delivered the sad news. I dont know the name of the family of the person who died.
