We put up these photos with a bit of trepidation in the sense that we obviously do not want to offend anyone related to those buried in the graveyard. On the other hand there are obviously some very interesting people buried in this graveyard and it seems appropriate to tell their stories here on the Castlebar Nostalgia Board. So, first of all, we will remove a photo if any relation of a person buried there does not wish to have it included.

But we would be fascinated to hear the stories of those buried here. Who, for example, was 'The Last Baron of Lom - known to many as Caesar'? What brought Karl Polesie here - born in Czechoslovakia in 1897 and died in Castlebar in 1942?

We were a bit surprised too that there is no wall remaining on the eastern side of the cemetery where the new road is being built - just a temporary fence as can be sen in the photos. Presumably a wall will be built in due course.
