Erris Notes in the Western People for Saturday Decemebr 11, 1971, contained the following:
THE FLIGHT FROM THE LAND
Grave concern is now mounting in the Bango Erris area over the transfer of a number of workers from this area to Belacorick on Monday last. Since Board na Mona established itself in the area bogland had become a very valuable asset, especially in the above mentioned area where over 120 workers were one time employed. Now the production of turf on these bogs has ceased which supplied Bellacorick Power Station and people are wondering will it be a cause for the future emigration from the area which is already nearly void of its youth.
