In May 1964 Castlebar Celtic beat a team called Glenview from Sligo 3-2 in the semi-final of the Connaught Junior soccer Cup in Castlebar.What happened afterwards made national headlines.
Some members of the Sligo team went on the rampage & numerous fights broke out in several pubs,items were thrown through the windows of a local hotel and at least three local men were assaulted,one just out of hospital.Also a Garda received serious injuries.
The Town was stunned & enraged with the scale of vandalism,especially since a few years previous,Sligo supporters wrecked a number of Buses on the Mall.
Two members of the Glenview soccer team & a Sligo supporter were sentenced to two terms of imprisionment ranging from six weeks to two months with hard labour for the offences.The men came from a housing estate in Sligo known as "Harmony Hill" & for a long time afterwards,locals were talking about the "Harmony Hill Mob".
