It's rather late (in every sense) that I'm getting to the above threads, but I must say that I enjoyed reading them.
Mention of Burleigh House is always welcome as it was where my grandfather and grandmother lived and where my Dad was brought up. Later today, we are having a cousins get together, something we decided on at the last funeral where we all gathered. It seems that funerals are now the main place when we cousins seem to meet, so we finally decided to meet for a night out, other than at a funeral!
First item on the agenda is a nostalgic visit to Burleigh House. Now believe me, the only time I visited Burleigh was to deliver a nessage to Nancy O'Brien from my mother, and that wasn't yesterday. One of my cousins Aidan Nally, who grew up and went to school in Castlebar, was actually born in Burleigh and his home in the south of England is now called Burleigh. Another cousin who now lives in Newcastle, Co. Down used to visit there on his summer holidays as a child. So they in particular are looking forward to the visit and know that it will bring back many happy memories. They all recognise of course that the town has changed so much over the years, but they still want to visit Tanseys, and to walk the streets, and one of them has already sneaked a pint in Mick Byrne's, "well worth coming from Newport Pagnell for"!
Slán go fóill, have to save my energy for the party tomorrow night.
