Seeking: Patrick Johnson Loftus
Details: My great grandfather, Patrick Johnson Loftus, was born in Castlebar on Aug. 31, 1841. He had a younger brother, Andrew Vousdan Loftus who died in the American Civil War. Patrick was 6 when he and the family immigrated to USA (Louisiana). There was a Robert Loftus residing in Rapides Parish, LA. where this family settled-may be related? Patrick's parents (names unknown) died in Louisiana in 1872 and 1873. Patrick refers to his uncle, Patrick Foley Keary, in his personal diary. Research had found William Vousdan Keary to be the father of William,Jr., Hugh, and Patrick Foley Keary. This Irish family was in British-held territory of what is now the state of Mississippi in 1818. There was a "Fort Loftus" there, now known as Fort Adams. Any imformation about Patrick Johnson Loftus' parents or other siblings and any information that could tie the Keary and Loftus family together will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Seeking: Julia Tonra-born c.1805, died Australia 1881
Details: Julia Tonra married eEglish soldier John Cox (39th. Dorsetshire Regiment of Foot) at Castlebar or Westport about 1820, came with two young children to Australia with the regiment and were at Springwood in the Blue Mountains of NSW, Australia in 1828. They had ten to eleven children, and they are my great great grandparents. Although they came as free settlers, through various mishaps they almost ended up in prison, appearing before the magistrate's bench at Hartley. Julia apparently sold liquor which she brewed. A photo shows here in her old age to be a small dark lady with a stern face.
Due to religious sentiments prevailing at the time, half of their children were Protestant, and half were Catholic. John is buried in the Anglican cemetery at Bowenfels, and Julia is buried a couple of miles down the Great Western Highway at Hartley, divided in death by religion! I would like to find out my about my Tonra forebears and perhaps also find the church where Julia and John were married. I will be visiting Ireland in October 1999 following Australia in the Rugby World Cup, and will be passing through Castlebar and Westport on the way from Belfast to the south west.

Comments: To Roger D. Gibbens re. your search for De Burghs (motto: "A Cruce Salus")
Burke's Irish Family Records (from p.338) gives very detailed backgrounds of the De Burgh's various branches in detail almost to the present day. My connection appears in "Hussey de Burgh" section p.343 half way down RHS "Anne, b.2 June 1814 ...and died 1902 leaving issue" Anne& Thomas's daughter Alicia Nina Reardon migrated to Australia. She was my great-grandmother.
I am also tooking at Castlebar for my Tonra ancestors. Great-grandmother Julia Tonra married John Cox, of the 39th. Dorset Regiment of Foot around 1820, and came to New South Wales, Australia about 1822-1828. I know that Tonra is a common Mayo name. I will be touring through Castlebar en route to Westport from Donegal early in October 99 following Australia's Rugby Union team in the World Cup. Would love to hear from any Tonra's out there, or anyone else who could help to place my Julia's family.

Name :
Larry D. Loiselle
Seeking: Pleasant (Plesent) Webb
Details: I am seeking any additional information that you can supply regarding Pleasant's parents/siblings of Pleasant Webb. Thanks a million.
==================================================
Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB was born about ca 1760. His son, Elias, said that his father, Pleasant was born in Ireland (not substantiated). He died between 1830 and 1840 in Ohio, USA. Around 1800 Pleasant and family came in to the Ohio valley from Rutherford County, North Carolina. In 1803 (reported to be 45 years old) he was in Scioto County, Ohio and was said to be a notorious character. Supposedly, he tried to break up a fight between James Bradley and the wife and children of James Quire (Squires). He ended up shooting Mr. Quire (Squires). After this incident at the Licks, he was driven out of that area. He is also said to have been a Tory during the Revolutionary War. Pleasant was in Greenup County, Kentucky in 1820 and in Lawrence County, Ohio in 1830, he did not appear in the 1840 census, so it is believed he died between 1830-1840. Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB and Unknown (Margaret BLACKWELL?) had the following children: James WEBB (1786), Elias WEBB (1788), Thomas Hanley WEBB (1795), Aden WEBB (1797), Temperance WEBB (1799), William WEBB (1801), Margaret WEBB (1806), Sarah (Sally) WEBB (1809), and Baker WEBB (1811).

Seeking: McKeever/Iver Family from Mayo
Details: Trying to locate any information on a McKeever/McIver family from Mayo. Two known sons were Patrick (birth date unknown) and Matthew , born about 1849. I suspect that the parents names were John and Margaret. They left Ireland between 1849 and 1852 when they had my great-grandmother, Mariah McKeever somewhere in England. This is the only information that I have on this family and would appreciate any help and suggestions on finding more about them. All three of the siblings immigrated to the US. Mariah settled in Youngstown, Ohio around 1872. Matthew was found living with Mariah and her family on the 1880 Ohio census. That is the only record that I have for his existence. Patrick married Mary Mooney and lived in Hanley England until immigrating to Steubenville, Ohio. Patrick and Mary were the parents of Msgr. John McKeever and Sr. Mary Agnes of the sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, Pa.
Thank you.

Seeking: CARY/CAREY, William
Details: Looking for my GGrandfather William CARY/CAREY, whose USA naturalization declaration of intent to become a citizen indicates he left County Mayo via Sligo in 1830, having been born in 1807 in County Mayo. Bill MARTIN
Seeking: MARTINs of Mayo (Castlebar, Ballyhean, Currany, Ballynostockagh, etc.)

Details: Dear All,

My name is William Patrick MARTIN, and my Irish ancestry traces directly back to County Mayo. I'm told that the Martins there are not as numerous as they once were, and I am very interested in re-connecting with whomever may be left. I've been able to trace back as far as the marriage between James MARTIN and Mary DIGNAN, circa 1848? - these are my gggrandparents... their children included Bridget, Cathrine, Mary, John, Anne, Patrick, James, Peter, and Thomas.
Their family would often live/work in Scotland (East Lothian County), in the post-Famine era. Patrick, my ggrandfather, married Agnes Stuart McClaren, from Aberfoyle, Scotland... their children included James, John, Francis, and Anna. Frank was my grandfather (full name=Francis Reynolds MARTIN), whom married Mary Alice McNally of America (with relatives in both Scotland and Ireland). Frank was known to have gone back and forth from Edinburgh, Scotland, to County Mayo, Ireland, to visit relatives there. Eventually, Francis, James, John and Anna all made their way to the USA with their respective families, by way of Quebec, Canada, and sent for their parents, Patrick and Agnes, soon afterward.
Your kind assistance, no matter how slight, would be dearly appreciated. PLEASE let me know. Slainte.
Bill Martin

Noreen Taylor
Seeking: Nora(Honora)O'Donnell Malley(O'Malley)
Details: I don't know too much about her, she was my father's mother. I believe she was born in Balla, Co. Mayo somewhere around 1880. She left Ireland at 19 to come to Philadelphia Pa. She was one of five girls, two of her sisters were Catherine and Moria. Her nephew was Richard O'Donnell, who I visited in 1974, but we lost touch. She married JAmes Malley(O'Malley) in Philadelphia. She had six children here, she worked as a domestic and later went on to own a grocery store in South Philadelphia. That's all I knowexcept it was arranged that she marry a policeman much older than herself in Ireland and rather than do that she ran off to America(she was quite a corker). Any information would be great. Thanks, Noreen Taylor
