Introduction:
My name is Aisling O'Hagan. I was a resident of Castlebar for almost
10 years, growing up in Saleen and The Curragh. I now reside in Calgary,
Alberta, Canada. Although as a teenager, it was difficult to move from
Ireland to Canada, I would have to say that growing up in Ireland was the
greatest experience of my life and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Here are the answers given to our questions:
1.Did you enjoy being a teenager?
Being a teenager was great. You were old enough to be treated
like an adult, but still young enough to get away with stuff.
2.Where did you go to school?
Breaffy N.S.; St. Josephs Convent; Acadia Junior High (Canada)
3.Did you like school?
For the most part, yes! Especially when were on summer holidays. I think
my worst experience in school was when I had just moved to Canada from
Castlebar. I didn't know anyone and I was very lonely. Other than that,
school was great!
4.What was your favourite and hated subject?
Favourite: History; Most hated: Maths.
5.What advice would you give to teenagers?
Don't give in to peer pressure. Being yourself will get you everywhere.
"I'd rather be a real nobody than a fake somebody".
6.What was your most embarrassing moment?
On a surfing outing with the Castlebar Swim Club one year, I forgot to
pull my togs all the way up under my wet suit. Needless to say, when I
removed my wet suit, I exposed my upper half to everyone. To this day, I'm
not sure who saw what, but it was still embarrassing. Keep in mind, I was
only around 11, so there was not that much to see!
7.What is your greatest achievement?
I believe that my greatest achievement is the ability
to be myself, avoid pressure to do drugs, which is tough in today's society.
And I'll always be proud of a time when I was 10, when I won a 100m
breastroke by 100th of a second at a swim gala against one of my rivals (and
friends) Elaine Dunn from the Athlone Aces.
8.How do you like to spend your free time?
Swimming, singing, writing, playing hockey.
9.What is your favourite food and drink?
My mom's shepards pie and coke
10.What is your happiest memory?
Too many to mention, but I would have to say my years
in Castlebar were some of the best in my life and memories that I will
cherish forever!
11.What is your favourite Music/Band?
12.What is your Favourite joke?
13.Name one thing you like? and dislike about myself?
Like: Loyal Friend; Dislike: I'm still short!
14.Are you interested in politics, if yes what changes would you like to see?
It's hard to stay up to date with Irish politics being so far away, but I
would like to see the whole of Ireland finally free of British rule.
15.Who is the person you most admire?
My Grandfather (on my dad's side). Although I never
met him, he fought with the likes of Michael Collins and Eamon De Valera for
the freedom of Ireland. He even spent 4 years in prison fighting for
something he believed in.
16.Do you have a pet, if yes what is it?
I have 2 dogs - Buster & Max.
17.Do you Surf the Internet?
18.Have you ever visited the Castlebar website? www.Castlebar.ie?
If so what do you think?
If not why not?
I check the website out every day. It's a fantastic way to keep in
touch with all my friends from when I lived in Castlebar. Keep up the great
work!!!
