Society outing June 2001

These photos by Christy Lawless show members of the Mayo Historical & Archaeological Society on their annual outing on Sunday, June 24th. The top picture, photographed at Kilfenora, Co. Clare shows the tour leader Mr. Peadar O'Dowd of the Galway Historical Society explaining the carvings of biblical scenes on a high-cross to a very interested group. The lower picture, taken at Poulnabrone Portal tomb, again shows Mr. O'Dowd, arms raised, as he explains the background to this most famous of Ireland's megalithic tombs. The tour, which took place in beautiful weather conditions, also visited Kilmacduagh, Kilnaboy, and the Cliffs of Moher.
