School Soccer League

For the last two weeks in school we are having a soccer league. Eight teams are taken part. They are France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Holland, England and Czech Republic. We are making great progress. We started the league on Friday the 18th of June. Only sixth classes are taking part in the league, sixty-four boys in all. It is run and organised by Mr Devaney and Mr Waldron. We have had everything in this league already, goals been disallowed, shots hitting the cross bar and post, goals from the half way line. The goal of the tournament came from Shawn Pillay who scored from the half way line. Who ever scored the first header would get two euro. Alan Quinn won it when he got a diving header. All the teams are evenly matched. Czech Republic captioned by Liam Gleeson has topped the group after the group stages after seven games. Top scorer so far is Philip Redmond with twelve goals. We are now reaching the quarterfinal stages. Our favourites would be Czech Republic after their current form in the group stages. Portugal suffered a huge blow when their captain Shawn Pillay broke his arm. The both sixth classes are taking turns refereeing. Mr Devaney and Mr Waldron are on the sideline in case anything happens. We had two pitches. One pitch had two Gaelic goals and the other pitch had two soccer goals A big thanks to Castlebar Celtic who gave us two soccer goals.

6th Class Basketball League
The 6th class Basketball League started around a month ago. Six teams are taking part. They are L.A Lakers captained by Vincent O Brien, Chicago Bulls captained by Joe Canning, Westside captained by Jack Foy, Southpark Scousers captained by Shawn Pillay, Jackson 5 captained by Gary Ruane and Boston Celtics captained by David McGowan. During the league there has been some great games and now we are in the quarterfinals with the winner of Westside and Jackson 5 to play Southpark Scousers and the winner of Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls to play L.A Lakers. Since we got new Alumnus green nets we are eager to get going but at the moment it is just a bit to wet to play. When it dries up we hope to get going and make sure the final is played off before we get our summer holidays. At the moment Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls are hot favourites but one of these will be out after the quarter-finals as they face off against each other.

OUR CONFIRMATION DAY
On the twenty ninth of May 2004 we made our confirmation. Most people arrived at half one for the two o'clock confirmation mass. We weren't even a little bit nervous because we had around
five practices. For the first time for most people they wore their uniform.
In the mass there were several readings, gifts, and we got the confirmation oil on our foreheads. Even though our foreheads were drenched in confirmation oil it wasn't a bad day because it proved very profitable. The mass was about two hours long and just a 'little' bit boring. Afterwards most people went homebut the rest went to restaurants. So all in all it was a good day.
