River Moy

Water levels are low and this combined with hot sunny weather meant that the fishing was poor upstream of Ballina. There are plenty fish coming in on the tides but few are moving upstream and this will not change until it rains.

The most successful methods were, flies in the Moy Fishery beats and shrimp and worms upstream of Ballina.

461 salmon were reported and 334 of these came off the Moy Fishery waters.
Heaviest fish weighing 14lbs. was caught by Gary Lamont Co. Derry.

Jack Freeney Waterville Co. Kerry had another good fish weighing 13.4lbs.

Guy Seron and party of four from France caught 48 salmon mainly small grilse for six days fishing.

David Forde Cork had 3 salmon best 8.5lbs.

Nigel Wilson Dromore had 3 fish best 5.5lbs.

Noel Hales Cork had 3 fish best 3.75lbs.

Lough Conn

The trout fishing is very slow during the day due to the bright sunshine and the lack of any fly hatches also the fish are feeding on fry. Most of the anglers are trolling for salmon.

The evening fishing to the sedge and buzzer is beginning to start and this should bring the fish to the surface from 8 o’clock to dark on warm evenings.

The best methods are dries mainly Dark Sedges. Green and Claret Stimulators.

50 trout and 30 grilse were reported.

Ned Tyrell Edenderry had heaviest trout weighing 3.5lbs on the fly. There is a rumour of an eight pound trout caught on the troll but could not confirm it.
