DeCare International in conjunction with the Mayo Athletic Club are hosting a 5-Mile Road Race and Walk in aid of the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.

The Hospice Foundation's goal is to provide the active total care of patients whose illness no longer responds to curative treatment. This service enables patients to live out the remainder of their lives in comfort and dignity, surrounded by their families and friends.

The race and walk is being held in Claremorris on Saturday the 20th of September and all are welcome. You can register for the event at the Town Hall in Claremorris (it's beside Super-Valu at the back of the square) from 4:30 PM onwards on Saturday. Registration costs 10 euro all of which goes directly to the hospice foundation and in return you'll receive a free t-shirt.

Free T-Shirt for every registered entrant

Please note that should you want to make a bigger donation to the hospice there will be representatives available on the day to collect any cash or cheques. Alternatively, if you have any friends or families that would like to sponsor you to do the 5-mile walk then we'll gratefully accept any donations from them too.

The Race and Walk starts at 6:00 PM on Saturday from outside the Western Hotel on the Old Knock Road (Main Street) and the route is a leisurely 5 miles going out of the town, past St.Colmans College and out on to the new bypass for about 400 yards before returning back into Claremorris along the same route.

Race Map

Whilst most of us mere mortals will be happy completing the 5 miles at a walking pace, the runners will be out to claim the prizes and improve their times so we'll let them off before the walkers.

For those interested in running, the race categories are :

  • Senior Men
  • Senior Women
  • VET Male over 40
  • Master Ladies over 35
  • Junior Boys Under 20
  • Junior Girls Under 20

Best of luck to everyone involved and please pass the word on to your friends, family and colleagues or anyone who you may think would be interested in taking part in this event.
