There's no business like snow-business

"There's no business like snow-business, like no-business I know . . .".

Staball Houses with a dusting of snow

Well 'twas an interesting sight to see pupils outside of the local schools getting back into cars n' buses this morning. I have to say that it brought back a lot of memories for me and made me feel very giddy indeed.

The roads are relatively clear in the town.

Sure it's Friday so most of us are in a good mood and it's one of those days that you just don't mind going into work but hey if there's a chance of getting a snow day then we'll gladly take it.

Well if I was off school today I'd be trying to remake the igloo I made as a kid - hint for anybody trying - you needs lots and lots of snow for this.

No doubt there'll be ould wans ringing into Mid-West, CRC fm and even the Gardai, complaining about the young people throwing snowballs . . . yeah like they never did it ! Although to be fair a hard snowball to the head or down the back of the neck is fairly unpleasant, so young 'uns leave the older generation alone . . . but nail your mates with the biggest baddest lump of white you can assemble.

Outside the town the roads are a bit mad !

Kudos to the local County Council and Urban Council lads for doing their best at keeping the roads clear . . . I think the urban boys have done a great job on keeping the town fairly safe . . . from talking to friends in Galway today I know that our county council boys have done fairly well too with the major routes, even though it's snowing as quick as they're gritting and salting - keep it going boys - you're keeping the wheels of commerce turning.

Drive slowly and leave plenty of space.

Mr Sun is doing his level best to poke his head through the clouds and every so often we're graced with bright clear blue skies and when this happens things start to drip and melt but as quick as the clearings come they're gone again and another flurry comes down to replace the fresh melt.

There's the sun trying to peek at the snow.

Will it last the day or the weekend?

Well Met Eireann has issued the following Snow Alert : Scattered snow showers today (Friday), mainly in Ulster & Connacht.

Suns out, melting started, but will it be enough ???

And the 3 Day Outlook: Very cold on Saturday night with a widespread severe frost and some wintry showers in the West. Sunday will be cold and mostly dry with good sunny spells. There'll be a widespread severe frost again on Sunday night. Monday will be dry with sunny spells and will be a little milder as a Southerly breeze develops and freshens. Frost in the East on Monday night, but becoming cloudy in the West with rain developing by Tuesday morning. The rain will spread Eastwards to all areas on Tuesday accompanied by fresh to strong Southerly winds.
