Ladies Registration

The registration evening for Castlebar Mitchels Ladies GAA club will take place this Friday evening, April 22nd, between 6 and 8pm in An Sportlann. All players wishing to line out with the club this year must be registered so itís of the utmost importance that everyone attends the registration evening and underage players must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Ladies Awards Night

The footballers of Castlebar Mitchels Ladies GAA club should turn the dream of winning the All-Ireland club title into reality, they were told at their recent awards night in The Welcome Inn recently.

The clubís PRO, Michael Gallagher told the large attendance that the young ladies of Castlebar should strive mightily to emulate the victories of Carnacon, Crossmolina and Ballina Stephenites on the national stage.

"The players in those clubs just didnít wake up a few weeks before the final and decide that they wanted to be the All-Ireland champions," he said. "They worked towards it and dreamt about it all of their lives. They developed and improved their talents from the very first time they put on a football boot for that one moment when they would be crowned All-Ireland champions.

"Many clubs have had the dream but few have the resolve or the resources to turn it into reality. But here in Castlebar itís different, we have the talent, we have the resources and if we have the resolve and determination then anything is possible.

"Thereís no reason why we cannot become All-Ireland club champions. The young ladies that wear the red and yellow can achieve anything that they want to and the only thing hindering them will be their own belief and ambition," he explained.

The club has gone from strength to strength in the past few years and this year the red and yellows will compete in six different grades ranging from U-10 to senior. They are the reigning Intermediate champions and have been making huge inroads at underage level. This year they will field a minor team for the first time and have players on all county teams from U-12 to senior, where Claire OíHara and Linda Connolly are household names.

On the night, awards were given out to the U-12, U-14, U-16 and senior players of the year, while the county intermediate medals were presented to last seasonís championship winning team.

Marie Keane received the U-12 award; Lisa McManamon was named as the U-14 player of the year while Kathryn Sullivan picked up the U-16 prize. Thelma Healy was the popular winner of the senior award while special appreciation awards were given to Padraig McManamon, Tommy Walsh, Stephen Burke and Noel Kearney.
