Community Games Results

The swimming County Finals for Mayo Community Games were held in Ballina Pool on Saturday, May 25th.
An incredible fourteen swimmers from Castlebar Swimming Club won their respective events and so have qualified for the National Finals of the Community Games to be held in Mosney, August 16th to 18th.

The Castlebar Club took GOLD in fourteen of the twenty two events, seven SILVER and four BRONZE medals, as well as SILVER in the girls U.13 Squad. This is the best representation which Castlebar Swimming Club has ever had at these National Finals and is reflective of the trojan work being done at the club by coaches and swimmers.

The girls U.13 Squad representing Breaffy Area were just pipped into SILVER medal position after a very close contest. The Squad included:
Shenagh O'Byrne, Aoife Granahan, Emma Hynes and Natalie Bourke.


"B" and "C" Gala, Sligo, Sunday 26th May 02.
Many of the same swimmers who performed so well in the County Finals in Ballina on Saturday 25th May were back in the water at a Graded Gala in Sligo on Sunday 26th May.
Again, the Castlebar Club showed that it is a force to be reckoned with - many of these young swimmers produced personal best times as they took 5 GOLDS, 4 SILVER AND 6 BRONZE medals in individual events. In addition, 3 relay teams took GOLD and 2 took SILVER.

In the relay events, the girls U.11 team took GOLD in very convincing fashion - Katie Costelloe, Annie McCormack, Sally Cunniffe and Leagh O'Byrne.
The girls U.13 "B" team also took GOLD as did the boys U.13 "B" team.
The boys U.11 team of Diarmaid Joyce, James Sweeney, Nicholas Quinn and Edward O'Byrne, took SILVER, as did the boys U.13 "A" team.
