Mayo E-Live, environmental group, are to hold a weeklong environmental awareness week entitled Enviro –Fest in the West from Tuesday April 26th to Monday May 1st 2003.

Mayo E-Live was formed in autumn 2000 by a group of people who met informally to discuss issues of environmental concern. They later joined forces with Ballinrobe Environmental Group.

The group initially concentrated on promoting awareness as to how we can all protect and improve our environment with a series of press releases in the local newspapers. Such was the interest in the group’s activities it was decided to forge ahead with the organization of an environmental awareness week.

Following the success of last year’s Mayo Environmental Awareness Week and with the increased awareness of environmental issues it should prove to be of tremendous interest.

The Department of the Environment and Local Government and Mayo County Council under the Local Environmental Partnership Fund 2003 jointly funds Mayo E-Live. The aim of the Local Environmental Partnership Fund 2003 is the promotion of Sustainable Development and Environmental Awareness.

The Awareness week entitled Enviro –Fest in the West will consist in a week long Programme of activities throughout the region and will culminate with a major environmental seminar.

At last week’s meeting in Ballinrobe it was decided to purchase seeds from the Organic Centre, Rosinver, Co. Leitrim and distribute them to schools in the locality to celebrate the arrival of spring and to mark the start of the year’s activities

Invitation:

Should these ideas appeal to you and you feel you would like to become involved and do some little thing to improve the place where we live, feel free to come along to our meeting and meet with others with a similar interest. Together there is a lot we can do to improve our environment and make our area a better place to live in.

Remember our next meeting in The Parish Centre, Chapel Street, Castlebar on Wednesday night February 5th at 7.30 p.m. Everybody welcome.
