The Natural Environment
Communities relied on the resources available in the immediate natural environment for self-sufficiency and survival. This exhibition looks at how the way of life in rural Ireland was influenced by the landscape and its resources. This is explored through vernacular architecture and illustrated by using different raw materials to make similar objects.
Location: National Museum of Ireland - Country Life, Level -1, Turlough Park, Castlebar, Co. Mayo
First Quarter - A Celebration of 25 years of the Irish Patchwork Society
The Irish Patchwork Society was established in June 1981 and this travelling exhibition First Quarter is a celebration of their achievements and work over the past quarter of a century. It consists of a selection of quilts and wall hangings completed by members of the Society especially for this exhibition.

It is supplemented with artefacts drawn from the National Museum's collections associated with Davitt and the Land League.
