River Moy

The first salmon of the season, in the Moy system, a nice fresh fish of 8.5 lbs., was taken at Pontoon Bridge today by Peter Moore from Foxford. With water levels dropping rapidly, and fish known to be running the system, the prospects for more salmon in the coming weeks are looking quite good. The Cloongee Fishery, which enjoyed excellent spring salmon fishing last year, is now under the management of the Board and permits are available from the Moy Fishery Office at the Board’s headquarters. Meanwhile, the Board is offering free fishing on the Ridge Pool up until the first salmon is caught.

The season on Conn got off to a good start with several trout reported over the first few days despite cold and inclement weather conditions. John Walsh and Joe Quinn had three trout on the opening day with the fish, which took dabblers, weighing from 0.75 lbs. to 1.5 lbs. David Dinsmore, Lahardaun, had two trout and Ronnie Cox also had two in the early days of the new season.

Another salmon, the fourth this season, was taken on Lough gill last Sunday by local angler, Rodney Kelly. The salmon, weighing 8 lbs., was taken while trolling.
