Moy System

Over the past week a further 14 salmon were taken by anglers fishing the Moy system.

The total number of salmon taken since the season opened has now reached 60 and the most productive location has been Pontoon Bridge where 23 salmon have been taken to date. On the Ballina Salmon Anglers’ water a good number of fish were seen moving upstream and Noel Maloney and Val Mitchell both had two fine fish to the worm weighing in at 11 lbs each. Gannon’s Fishery reported 4 salmon for the week with Mervin Dixon and James Cornally each taking an 11lb salmon to the worm. With water levels continuing to drop the prospects for the coming week look promising. Permits for the Cloongee Fishery, are now available from Tiernan Brothers, at their Angling Centre on Main St., Foxford. Meanwhile, free fishing continues on the Ridge Pool until the first salmon is caught.

Lough Conn

Anglers fishing Lough Conn enjoyed a reasonably good week’s fishing with quite a few boats out on the lake throughout the week. Conditions were good and there was a good hatch of duckfly on Cloghans Bay. Anglers reported that a lot of fish were showing and rising to the fly. Several anglers had very good bags of trout and a good number were returned to the lake. Chris Heathcote, fishing out of Pontoon Bridge had a 1lb fish to an Orange Dabbler. Larry McNeely had 7 trout weighing between 1 and 2lbs fishing a Bibio and returned 7 fish to the lake. Ian Wise had three on the duckfly and Susan & Walter Byrne had 8 trout at Cloghans most of which were returned. Martin Kelly and Padraic Rooney – Dublin took 9 trout over three days again on the duckfly. Other anglers to report good fishing included Seamus Kelly who had two good fish at 2 and 2.5lbs fishing a Fiery Brown and Padraic Traynor had three on Bog Bay to the buzzer. Best catch of the week went to Martin Ryan – Drogheda who reported 10 small fish for the week.

Lough Gill

Lough Gill produced 11 salmon for the week. Anglers participating in a fishing competition held on Easter Monday and organised jointly by the Sligo Anglers’ Association and the Blue Lagoon Hotel enjoyed reasonable fishing. Five local anglers had a salmon each which weighed in between 8 and 11lbs. All fish were taken while trolling and the competition was won by Rcki Fabozzi, Sligo Anglers Association, who had a fine 11lbs fish.

Loughs Bo & Nasool

Lough Bo returned 27 trout for the week to anglers fishing the worm or spinner. Best catches reported were Gary Moran and Andy Tiernan who had four fish each and Graham Tiernan, Fergal Cullin and Thomas Hughes all of whom had three fish each. At Lough Nasool, 4 rainbows were reported for the week.
