River Moy

The Moy system produced a reported catch of 204 salmon for the week with fish taken throughout the entire system. On the Weir Pool, in Ballina, John Howley had 2 on worm. Eight were reported from the Ballina Salmon Anglers water, 3 from Mount Falcon, 6 from Knockmore Club water, 7 from Attymass, 5 from Armstrongs and 11 from Gannons. The bulk of the catch, however, was taken from Foxford upstream with the Foxford Fishery, Rinanney, Cloongee and East Mayo Anglers water all doing well. On the Foxford Fishery, John Anthony, Wales, had a 6 lbs. salmon on fly and Paul Williams, also from Wales, had 4 salmon for his week with 3 on spinner and 1 on fly. On Rinanney, Owen Reg and Celia Bishop, England, had 6 salmon with 3 of them weighing more than 10 lbs. On Cloongee, Noel McIntyre, Mullingar, had a 10 lbs salmon on a spinner and David Crawford, N. Ireland, had 2, one at 8.5 lbs. and one at 12 lbs. both on spinner. On East Mayo, Claude Grossean, Belgium, had 2 salmon, one at 4 lbs. on worm and one at 8 lbs. on fly. Marcel Jecquem, Belgium, also had 2, one at 5 lbs. and one at 7.55 lbs with both taken on fly.

Loughs Conn

Bright, sunny conditions, combined with strong winds at the end of the week, affected trout fishing this week. However, 170 anglers reported 200 trout, for 240 rod days, with an average weight of .91 lbs. A party of 8 French anglers caught 9 trout, weighing 15.5 lbs, and 3 grilse, for two days fishing. Larry Kelly, Dublin, and John Jack, Scotland, had over 20 trout over 6 days with the best at 3 lbs. Father and son, Bill and Brendan Moore, England, had 9 trout over 2 days and returned all. Heinrick Lagerfeld, Germany, had 4 trout, from 1 lb. to 1.75 lbs. and Henry Mascot, France, had 2 trout for 4 lbs. Seamus Kelly and Tim Hannon had 4 trout for 8 lbs. and Tim also had a grilse which took a spent gnat! Lough Conn produced at least 12 salmon for the week of which a number were taken on trout flies with the Green Peter proving effective for both salmon and trout.

Ballisodare River

Ballisodare produced 43 salmon for the week even though the main grilse run has not yet commenced. Fifteen of these were returned and 12 of the catch were taken on fly with most of the others on worm. However, by far the best fish of the week, a fine salmon of 14.5 lbs. was taken on shrimp by visiting angler, Jarlath McGuinness.

Lough Doon

Despite the bright sunshine all week, there was reasonably good fishing on Doon again this week. Local angler, Mark Rooney, had 4 trout for his day of which he returned two. David Watson, Scotland, had one which took a mayfly and Robinson Reed, UK, had a good trout on a Peter Ross. To book a boat on Doon, contact Mrs. Martin, beside the lake, on 071-9164989.

Carrowmore Lake

Carrowmore produced 5 salmon this week with two of these being taken by local angler and Fishery Officer, John Cosgrove.
