The Gullivers were an old Castlebar family, small farmers who sold bonhams in the Pig Market. The eldest of the family was Pakie and he and his sister Mary Ellen emigrated to America in the late 1930s (they were debarred from getting De Valera's free beef becuase they supported the Blueshirts). The two youngest of the family, John Joe and Annie May, left for England where they did quite well for themselves. John Joe was a foreman with Wimpeys and changed his name to Jack; Annie May worked with Cadburys and was known as Chocolate Annie. Nothing has been heard of the family in recent years, but I believe Jack's eldest son has become an astronaut, hence Gulliver's travels.
