In May 1923 the urban council were given
£1,200 by the then Dept of Local Government
to carry out works to create employment in
Castlebar.The council agreed to spend the money
on various projects including £200 on filling
and improving the Green.
£20 was given to the building of a footbridge
over the river at Blackfort farm.The value of
money.
