My uncle Tim Daly R.I.P.,told me he had read a book on the life of Thomas Ashe. I was wondering if any of you has ever read it?. I did not talk to Tim about the book.Tom Ashe, other than his hunger strike, had something unusual about his initial incarceration, that I cannot recall!. During the tragic unveiling of Bobby Sands and his followers abstention from sustenance of any kind(spiritual not included). A sudden thought came to me!. I grabbed the guiness book of records, and sure enough, the Irish hold the record for the longest unforced hunger strike(allthough I have heard it said, that pressure was put on Bobby Sands et al, to be a martyr for the 'Cause). Some twelve or so Irish 'political prisonors', imprisioned in a British jail(from Cork)take that credit. But, did not perish, from starvation, at least, but were saved by the skill of the British medical doctors on hand(Q).Ghandi followed the same route, but garnished concilliations for stoping. Look to our own back yard,to the blight, and the indiference from the 'House of Commons'as a hole!.A'Nobel Laureate' remarked at last weeks 'Peace Jam' That one percent of the 'global population',have it all, and the rest have nada!!. Starvation is 150 years old in County Mayo, but is alive and well elswhere on the planet. The pestilence of Aids, the growth of greed and the violence it produces.Esoteric drugs and the moral malaise that accompany them.Televised hatred. Hurricane Kathrina unveiled the underground river of a very downtrodden segment of society, that reflects, these disunited states. All pointing to a brain that shuts out shock,to protect it's bearer. Where is the oasis to relieve 'Spiritual Thirst'?.
