Your posting raised a flag in my head, that said The Connaught Rangers were a force to be reckoned with on the battle field to the point, they were nicknamed;"The Devil's Own". They were trained at one chapter in their long famous history by a scotsman named 'Arther Wallace'(possibly a descendant of the great warrier William Wallace from the 11th. century) The regiment headquarters was based in Gallway. However, given that the next largest military camp in the province was based in Castlebar it is logical to assume that recruits were pulled from "The 'Bar". The rangers were disbanded in 1922 at the onset of "The Irish Free State". It may be dificult to trace individual members of the regiment due to a fire in the building that housed the archives of the british military in that time period.I link you now to; 'The Unusual';from Gallway, a photograph of the regiment colours, and a brief description of their history and the contradictory relationship we have had with our neighbours across "The Irish Sea". http://speedie.journals.ie/2006/04/09/week-8-the-unusual-proud-tradition-of-service-in-british-army/ Apologies for the lack of proper linkage I ran out of 'blue chalk. I have never linked before. Have'nt got the foggiest!.B.
