Forty yrs ago this June, C/bar Chamber of Commerce set about staging the 1st Walking Festival. The committee invited Senator Robert Kennedy to officially open the Walks as they had heard he would be in Ireland to open Dunganstown Park in Wexford, where his G/father came from. Kennedy was also a noted walking enthuatiast & had completed many for charity in the USA. He sent a letter to the committee stating that due to time constraints, he was unable to accept at this time. He appreciated their thoughtfulness & stated that he would love to participate in the future.
Exactly one year later, he was assassinated…….
