A hot, hot sunny day with exams on the near horizon and a devil may care attitude in our heads . . . jays lads it's far too nice to go back to school for more bloody revision after lunch, what say we hit the mall for a spot of footie instead . . . agreed . . . nervous ninnies and brash boys alike all traipsed up to the glorious green bathed in Summer sunshine when Summers = hot and not wet.

Not 10 mins into a game and the mixed green jumpers from Davitt and navy from St Gers were discarded into piles - jumpers for goalposts.

No inter school rivalry here - a lot like the football match at Flanders both sets of pupils united on the mitch and in full view of the town - oooh how brazen were we but truth be told no one really worried too much about it until a teachers car would be spotted circling the Mall - "!!!" and all the pupils of one parish would drop to the ground as if struck by a salvo of snipers bullet, the others laughing til eventually one of theirs made a similar circuit.

Ah the silky skills of footballing legends would be attempted should there be any girls bould enough to go on the mitch too. Sure when you've an audience and when you're young, you think that these things would impress a girl . . . God be with us, sure some of us still think the same :-)

And to be sure there were some beautiful gorgeous creatures walking the town in those hot summer days and sure they're probably all married and onto their second chins by now.

Ah yes, youthful memories of the Mall . . .
