In the early 1970's Castlebar Ramblers Club erected Christmas Lights and lanterns on Main Street and The Mall. They also erected a huge Christmas tree on The Mall. All done by voluntary effort by this civic minded youth organisation.

To my mind this lighting scheme surpassed anything that has gone up in recent years. Anybody got any photos of them? Would be lovely to see on Nostalgia Board.
