And RTE radio channels are available free on the same satellite - so why not the TV too? It's a decision by RTE to require an additional fee on top of the licence fee. It should not have happened. It was a disgraceful decision. I did hear a rumour, though, that they are going to go free to air later this year?? It would be nice if it were true. And for the nostalgia bit - I remember watching the testcard back in the days when TV used to shut down for most of the day.
