As someone who lost 3 uncles at the Somme, I dont think its inappropriate that these men (and women)are recognised. It is a part of our history in the same way the Great Famine, 1916, the War of Independence and the Civil War are.

Last time I checked there was a wonderful Famine Memorial over at the Reek! Have never been, but I have never been to Clare Island either (and I've been all over the world)
