I remember vaguely the La Salle stuff - we were in National School at the time and it all seemed very glamorous. I dont remember them singing that castlebar boy stuff (were our tastes that bad?) but the song contest was a great show for the town. As I recall, Paddy McGuinness got a paint company to sponsor it for many years. There was also a cavan song contest and a bunch of others - kind of like the festivals in later years (Ian Drury and the Blockheads in Rehins !!) - went through a phase adn then died out. Everyting has a life span. Look at the Eurovision. Need somethingnew to put Castlebar on the map apart from politicians. Not the most popular folk these days
