There are very few books available on Castlebar's history -"Through Fagan's Gate" by Tom Higgins deals particularly with the church & religious orders in the town and the "The Famine in Mayo" by Ivor Hamrock are two which might be still in print.
Other books that are now out of print/unavailable to buy are "History of Castlebar" by Brother Donal,"Short History of Castlebar" by Paddy Jennings,"Streets of Castlebar" by Liam Egan and "Convent of Mercy, Castlebar" by Sr. Consillio. All these books and more are available in the Local section of Castlebar Library.
