Family members of mine suffered similar fates at a country school not far from Castlebar. They were poor and they were orphans-they had no one to stand up for them.

Years later when being treated for alcoholism, one of my uncles had to see a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist said the the PTSD he was suffering from (which was causing his alcoholism)stemmed from his school experiences, not the death of his father at age 4-how sad is that!

Anyone with a collar was beyond reproach! I did hear a good story once from Willie the Shoe. His sister got flailed by a nun for some trivial reason. His father marched straight up to the convent and confronted the offender. Lets just say, she probably heard language she never heard before or after, amd was told in no uncertain terms the consequences of a reoccurrence.
