Wonderful read Butch and great memories. From where I lived in 1956 your fire may as well have been Tara to our Slane, or vice versa. You're right the summers were better then and you could hear cuckoos, corncrakes, foxes and even mr. brock when he snuffled around the countryside. Funny how landscapes, rivers, lakes and dells shrink with time, both in content and size......progress.
