Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Frank McCourt who wrote Angela’s Ashes died yesterday. I remember when he came to Castlebar 10 years ago, on his 68th birthday to give a reading in the County Library and a huge crowd attended. He was great fun and answered all questions in his own humorous way. He was also touched when the library staff appeared with a birthday cake and all joined in singing ‘happy birthday’. He couldn’t understand why strangers would go to all this fuss.
