What you wrote is absolutely true!
Even as a child, the blatant social pecking order that existed all through national school in Castlebar sickened me.
I noticed how some lads were constantly picked on by some teachers - often receiving brutal and demeaning physical and and mental abuse.
Very few of these lads' parents ever had the nerve to come to school to challenge these brutes who should never have been left alone with innocent and vulnerable children.
Your dad's job or profession, and/or your address determined whether you were likely to be abused or treated with simpering kid gloves.
The good old days, eh?
