Speaking of barbers;
My first haircut was in Mick Quinn's upstairs in Main St. What an experience. When we were small Mick had the piece of timber he would put across the arms of the chair to raise us up. Smell of Brylcream etc. Great times. At the time I remember Ger's on Market Sq. where the entrance to the Dunnes shops is now. When they knocked that he moved to where he is now opposite Dunnes. I remember going in as a child and a queue out the door waiting their turn. Also Seanie Kelly on Castle St. I think my mother brought me once or twice to a hairdresser but they were not as obvious? One across from Presbytery, one on corner of traffic lights at Newtown and one upstairs in Brownville Flats.
