In my previous posting I forgot about my Aunt Ciss Hoban's in Linenhall St and Jack Leonards next door. Ciss was renowned for her home baking and black pudding. she also took pride in shining the Granny Smith apples that displayed on the window.

Christy Hobans, Castle Street was renowned for its bacon. He also supplied other shops as a wholesaler. Peter Devers , Ellison Street supplied excellent potatoes as did Val Donegan in Duke St.

Christy Hobans and Byrnes , Main Street were Egglers. I remember Byrnes testing the eggs with an electric light bulb.
