Jack dealt in my mother's shop . He looked after his own mother for many years. When she died, I remember he took it badly and let himself go for a while. His neighbours were very good to him, one in particular who took particularly good care of him. He was good friends with the circus people and I often heard him tell stories about Mr Chipperfield. Jack was a very nice individual and had a certain old world charm and courtesy. I remember the name legger but I'm not sure if he liked it or where it came from. Was he one of the original 'waits'?
