Listeners to CRC FM are in for a real treat this month as a new three-part documentary series entitled Brothers In Arms – featuring a unique look at the background and development of the Mayo Peace Park and Garden of Remembrance in Castlebar – will be aired over three successive Saturdays commencing on 21st of November at 4pm

The series is co-produced by Ronan Courell and Tommy Marren and will give listeners a rare insight into the planning of what is one of the jewels in Castlebar’s crown. The park was officially opened in October 2008 by President Mary McAleese and one of the programmes will feature extensive coverage of the events of that historic day in Castlebar.

The other two programmes in the series deal with the background to how this project culminated after many years of planning and has become a place of remembrance of all Mayo natives who served and died in all wars and conflicts with both the Allied and Commonwealth forces as well as all those Mayo born Irish Army soldiers who served and died on UN operations. A guided tour of the park forms an integral part of one of the programmes as well as an extensive interview with Michael Feeney who was the main pioneer and driver of the project.

The series relays many interesting and previously untold stories from a wide range of contributors at both the opening day ceremonies and committee members who have been part of the project since 1999. A large number of contributors were involved in the series and they include President Mary Mc Alesse, Former EU Commissioner Padraig Flynn, and County Manager Des Mahon.

The series Brothers in Arms will be broadcast at 4 pm for the next 3 consecutive Saturdays on CRC FM (102.9 FM) on the following dates : 21st of November, 28th November and the 5th of December.
