a cara......chris.....when i lived at the gate house in massbrook.....herr fromberg was the owner.....actually the fromberg family were very nice people.......they often gave me lots of milk and butter.......i can't remember the name of the grounds keeper ....he was a local.....i rented a tv from somewhere.....and when it was up and running....he would drop into the house to watch.....he obviously had never seen tv before.....because when he approached me ....he said....could i take a look at the picture machine you have....he would sit with amusement and awe at the tv.......he would often bring me wood for the range....my jubilee cooker range......the loft in the house was full of bats......and at night they would take off.....it was like a scene from a bela lugosi movie.....my dog spot used to chase the postman down the long driveway to the main house.......the portico in front of the main house was a magnificent vista....a picture.....with the most amazing view of the lake......now about the moran sisters.....yes they were the teachers....and were related to dr.matt and miceal o morain...their house was a little down from the gate house heading towards pontoon.....it was a red pebbled dashed house.....but the teacher at massbrook caned my son for not knowing ...irish....why should he ....he was born in vancouver.....however she got my suggestion real quick.....lawhe mcginty used to drop into the house from time to time as he often had hackney runs down that way ....but my main guest was john kenny....who used to drive me home almost every night......of course we never let an opportunity to stop off at healys go to waist.....and that was the way it was once upon a good time....when i lived in massbrook ...on my "lost weekend"....the siocholonie from castlebar used to harrass me when i lived there.....looking for drugs....or any other reason to ransack my house.....det. touhy...was a pain in the ass.....i once told him i would throw him in the town river....and sgt steve dunford ....told him to back off..... |
