I remember in the 1960s often seeing Mr McCormack strolling the Mall at the Ellison Street side. At the time McCormacks had a shopfront and archway - and perhaps even offices - around the corner, close to Fahy's electrical goods and repair shop. I guess the old man resided there? I was only a child then but I recall a physically big man, in bowler hat and always carrying a walking stick. Sadly, as children then we had no interest in or appreciation of his past and the part he might have played during more turbulent political times in Ireland. In the '60s Michael Collins was hardly ever spoken of during school history lessons, but Mr McCormack's recollections of 'the Big Fellow' - and others - would be fascinating today.
