a cara......thank you for your comments....i know saleen lake is but a shadow now....and that there is an estate built on part of it.....but years ago the lake extended to the cross for milebush and the ballinrobe roads......many years ago texaco had a supply depot below laceys and on the other side of the road were open fields........but saleen was an established lake.....on the opposite side we used to to blaines......and i remember the old wooden bridge the spanned a river....that river was a favourite fishing spot....well know for perch......saleen had a great harvest of pike.....and silver belly eels.....and martin moylette.....big pat's father was a regular angler there....i saw many a pike he took from the lake.....george fair senior....used to swim across to blaines....which later became dixons.....i remember the moy drainage scheme....well.....for during "my lost weekend" i worked on that ....first at the islanaedy river....then on the town river....do i have stories of my adventures with tailie mick guthrie ...paddy clarke....jimmy judge.....when we were crew members underpinning .....a large pike was making its way down the river just below mollys bridge ....when...paddy clarke ..like an amazonian spearsman ...aimed his spade....then javellined the pike.....it made tasty eating ....we cooked it ....and had a mighty feed ....then washed it down with a few pints at john kennys.....my days on the moy drainage were story filled ...but thats another story....la eile ...an sceil sin.....
