Hi Brian...nice to hear that story of your parents shop at Christmas and to be reminded of An Margadh Mor.
My mother, on the 18th November, always recalled that it was the 'big fair day in Castlebar.' Her family were farmers and lived in Cortoon, out towards Newport. I suppose sales at that fair was the last money that would come into their house for Christmas buying.
