Thank's for correcting me on that one Oliver, it just shows you how the memory plays tricks sometimes. Yes they were really good times. I always felt that Castlebar was a special place to have been born in, when you think of it, ther's not many towns in Ireland that has connections with the British Royal family ie=Spencer St and Spencer Park. Lord Lucan, and Castlebar is mentioned in the book "The Charge of the Light Brigade" and of cource the connection with the French or to coin a phrase "The French Connection" and I'm sure there are lots more, not many towns in Ireland have such a history, and you could go on forever talking about it's characters, which reminds me of one Powie Roach he could shoot down a German plane by simply getting down on one knee and pointing a finger at it. These people were all gentle folk ment no harm to anybody, but was'nt it great to have known them. Great memories also about dances in the Town Hall, lots of stories there and Wards coffee shop sold ice cream I believe it could have been called "The Garden Shop" (correct me Oliver)on the corner beside the bridge on Main St. Joe Chambers Jnr. and myself were in there one day we used to look up the list of records Jack had on his jukebox put our sixpence in when we found one usually Elvis or Buddy Holly anyway half way through the song Jack says dont you guys ever buy anything except use my juke box and with that he pulled the plug on the machine and told us to leave, Joe and I still have a laugh about it, I doubt if Jack could get away with it today. Joe told me that he met Jack 20 odd years later working in the Empire State building as a lift jockey, small world. This Nostalgia Board is great is'nt it. Bye for now.
