Re: the Knott family connection.
Mayo County Surgeon, Dr Edward Knott was married to Elizabeth O’Malley, the youngest daughter of the late Mr. Middleton O’Malley and niece of Major General George O’Malley, whom has a monument erected in the grounds of Christ Church, Castlebar. O’Malley served with the British Army in Egypt, North America, and the Mediterranean and in the Battle of Waterloo where he was wounded twice in 1815. Dr Knott died in London in 1843 aged 63 years and is buried in his family plot at Murrisk Abbey. His son Dr. Middleton O’Malley Knott succeeded him as County Surgeon.
